I thought life was going well with my devices until I experienced inconveniences with the laptop I'm using. I own a MacBook Air M1, which I bought in August of 2023. It's only March of 2026, and I'm scared it would just die on me unexpectedly.

I have been experiencing ghost touches from the trackpad. It's clicking out of areas I am still actively on. It has also been sending me alerts that the memory is not enough for all of the 50 tabs opened in my browser and the 26 windows opened in the background.

I've always worked like that, and if it's not a problem for my $400 PC, I didn't think it would be in my $1000 laptop.

Even for this, I've already had frustrations with my device. The first one is that I can't connect two monitors at a time. I was able to do it on my old Acer laptop, and I thought it was really cool to multitask and see everything on its dedicated screen, but apparently, that's something I need to pay for more in a Mac.

Then, I realised the clipboard that I ever so loved in my Windows laptop is not natively available. Fortunately, I was able to find an application to help me with it.

I was able to make it work for me for 2 years and counting. However, I got introduced to the world of gaming. It's not heavy and wild. I play Stardew Valley. More recently, I started playing Overcooked. I noticed my laptop getting unbearably slower, so I deleted all of my games.

It didn't improve. I don't know what I have done. Maybe it was all my photos, so I'm removing them right now. Hopefully, it gets better.

While I'm still looking for ways to make this device work for me, the last straw was two days ago.

On my PC, I learned about AutoHotkey. It's an application that allows you to substitute texts with shortcuts, the way Mac has it natively. Points to Apple. However, there's one particular shortcut that I need in my daily and that's my timestamps.

I work with a huge team. Having time and date stamps of when a task was done is very important for tracking and accountability. I spent hours doing automations, and it didn't work. I was so livid, and I decided not to upgrade my MacBook any longer, and instead opted for a Windows laptop.

This is a decision I could've made privately and easily without broadcasting to people, so why was I compelled to write a multi-paragraph post about a gadget? For the same reason, I spent hours looking for forums to support my decision and justification.

My fiancé pointed out that I get unintentionally peer-pressured because my friends all have Apple products, and I wanted to belong even if it meant sacrificing important parts of my daily workflow.

I used to work in the media (subtitling and dubbing) and a Mac was perfect for it. The viewing experience was smooth, and whenever I edit videos in Da Vinci, it is just such a delight.

I haven't done that, and I don't see myself doing that anytime soon. With all the prices skyrocketing, I think I'm gonna get my money and buy something that fits what my life needs right now. Something simpler, mechanically, and financially.

I'll be starting a new life soon, might as well start with smart financial choices.
